The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Super Bowl trailer conceals as much as it reveals - and that isn't a glimpse of the Human Torch. The multiverse lies at the heart of the MCU's Phase 4, a prospect that clearly terrifies Doctor Strange - but has left fans absolutely thrilled. It's already led to an unforgettable cross-dimensional team-up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Tom Holland's Spider-Man fighting alongside Tobey Maguire's and Andrew Garfield's.

That, of course, raises the prospect that every Marvel film or TV series is actually part of the wider MCU multiverse - and that there will be further team-ups. The Doctor Strange 2 Super Bowl trailer, supports this theory, with Doctor Strange brought before some sort of multiversal tribunal and addressed by a voice that's instantly recognizable - Patrick Stewart, who played Professor X in Fox's X-Men movies. But another moment has caught viewers' attention as well, a glimpse of a mysterious fiery being. There's been some speculation this could be the Human Torch, a key member of the Fantastic Four.

This is not a version of the Human Torch, however. This mysterious being is shown blasting through some sort of barrier with what appears to be superhuman strength, and although their body seems to be burning with some sort of cosmic flame their hands are shimmering with blue energy. They're capable of flight, but they don't leave the traditional Human Torch's fire-trail behind them. There's no direct match between this mystery character and Marvel Comics. Still, given Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness deals with magic, it's possible this is actually a sorcerer wielding the MCU's version of the Flames of the Faltine - powerful extradimensional entities who have allowed the Sorcerer Supreme to use their cosmic energies before now. One shot in the trailer suggests the character is wearing some sort of headpiece and gauntlets of some kind, which could well be mystical relics granting them this power. There have been rumors that Doctor Strange 2 will feature Clea, a powerful sorceress descended from the Faltine, so the Faltine would be a good fit.

There is also some speculation this could be a variant of Monica Rambeau in the Doctor Strange 2 trailer, but again it isn't an exact match. In truth, there's a lot more to Marvel's multiverse than just variants; as seen in the first Doctor Strange film, the wider Marvel multiverse includes countless other planes of existence inhabited by cosmic beings. The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer hints at another of these, the Nightmare Realm, suggesting some of the more terrifying extradimensional entities are about to invade Earth. And though Doctor Strange doesn't seem to have the help of the Fantastic Four against them, he is not without other allies.
