Morant shows off elite athleticism in this ridiculous defensive play

By now we're all well aware of the crazy athleticism that Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant possesses. He's pulled off some ridiculous dunks over the three years he's been in the league, so you would think it shouldn't be surprising when he pulls off another athletic feat, right? Wrong. While we're used to seeing him fill up the highlight reel on offense, his latest mind-blowing highlight came on the other end of the floor.

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant didn't waste much time to show fans he was back healthy after missing Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers with thigh soreness.

Desmond Bane turned the ball over and was left one-on-one with Los Angeles Lakers guard Avery Bradley going the other way.

In the first first quarter against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night, Morant more than made up for a turnover he committed by elevating for this nasty chase-down block on Avery Bradley in transition:

This block is just filthy. Bradley potentially might have made that shot with Desmond Bane challenging him, but then out of nowhere here comes Morant, who loads up and basically blocks and catches the shot with two hands. What's also insane about this play is that Morant doesn't really decide to fully commit to getting this block until he's at the 3-point arc. You can see him turn on the burners to get there right in time to land that swat, and it was just executed beautifully.

That easily has to be one of, if not the best block we've seen all season, and very reminiscent of the iconic block LeBron James had in the 2016 NBA Finals. So it's pretty ironic that it came against James' team with him watching from the other end of the floor.

That block is just the latest highlight in what's been a stellar season for Morant, who is having a career year in Memphis. He's averaging 25 points, 6.6 assists and 5.8 rebounds, while shooting an incredibly efficient 49 percent from the field and 39 percent from deep. His production has led the Grizzlies to the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference so far this season, and could potentially earn him the first All-Star nod of his career.
